Representative Krusee supported a $5 billion increase in public school
funding, including $2.8 billion above and beyond what's needed for enrollment
growth.
Representative Krusee voted to increase teacher salaries by
$2,500--including a $1,500 across-the-board pay hike and $1,000 distributed at
the school district's discretion.
Representative Krusee also supports requiring 65% of school district funding
to be spent on classroom instruction, compared to just 50% today.
In the 78th Legislative Session (2003), Representative Krusee co-authored
House Bill 2522, which laid the foundation for bringing a
branch of Texas State University to Round Rock.
Taxes:
Representative Krusee voted to place caps on property tax appraisals and
limits on local revenue increases, in order to give a substantial break to
property owners and families. Mike believes strongly that Texans
need and deserve breaks in
their property taxes--Texas' property taxes are among the highest in the
nation, and Representative Krusee believes that needs to change.
Representative Krusee OPPOSES a statewide
income tax.
Families:
Representative Krusee voted to enhance parental rights
and protect young
girls by requiring parental consent before a doctor performs an abortion on a
minor. State law now includes a provision that a physician must obtain
consent of a parent, guardian or acting conservator before performing an
abortion on a minor girl.
Representative Krusee also voted to give voters the option to
outlaw
same-sex marriages. During the 78th session (2003), Representative Krusee
and the Texas Legislature approved the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined
marriage for purposes of state law as the legal union between one man and one
woman as husband and wife.
In the 79th Session (2005), Representative Krusee co-authored HJR 6, which
recognized the definition of marriage in the Texas Constitution
as a union of
one man and one woman. Texas voters subsequently passed Proposition 2 with
a 76% vote.
